Thats a good solution too. I am partial to the thicker foam off the Rumper it allows more space to thread a line. The color is a little more nautical looking too.

I'm sure you could use copper plumbing insulation from your local hardware store as well. It already comes with a slice down the middle. You have to like the color black though - because that's the only color it comes in.

From PCYC: First day of racing was excellent. Winds were at 170-175 around 8-14. Current was almost undetectable. No thunderstorms, just lots of sun, heat and saltwater. I can't remember all the finishes from yesterday, but I'll try:
Kleinshrodt: 1,3,2
Lamar: 4,1,2
Currie: 2,2,3
Weintjes: 3,5,5
Gibbs: 5,4,6
I can't remember all the other scores and there could be an error here. If so I'll update later.
Also we ran the Kattack Performance Program on some of the boats. They are uploaded on Kattack.com under J22, JYC, Gulf Coast Championships. Enjoy!

Great news, looks like we are going to have a number of GPS's over at the GCC so we can post the races and heckle each other as to bonehead tacks and also see where and how someone got ahead. I'll have 4-5 working devices from JYC Fleet 63, Chris, Boo and Kett all have one as well, so that will be a great start and should we have more we will just add them in.
When they go online they will be on the Kattack website under JYC races. I'll label this one as the GCC or something close to it. If you don't have the Kattack player you will need to register yourself, download and install it on your PC to view the races.

Yes, Mart's string rule holds up, but don't tell him or he'll remind us every time we have another question. I had a heck of a time finding the rule, 28.
Now when those marks aren't perfectly aligned someone is going to have to get Mart a lot of string to demonstrate the rule. Besides it is still a very aggressive course change, reach-reach-loop-beat-run to finish.

So I sent Joe's "scenario" to Dave Dellenbaugh at Speed Smarts as a suggestion for his newsletter and he sends the answer below back in about 2 hours

Good question -- yes, they were required to do the "hairpin turn" because rule 28 says that when the string that represents your wake is pulled taut it must a) lie on the correct side of every mark, and b) touch every rounding mark. Since the leeward mark is a rounding mark, your "taut string" must touch it, which would not be the case if you simply sailed from the first windward mark to the new one -
