About our fleet

This is the blog for J22 Fleet 63 in Jackson, Mississippi. We have 14 J22s in our fleet. We race every Sunday afternoon with the exceptions of a few holidays or an occaisional gap between seasons. If the temp is between 35 and 105 degrees we will race. Based at Jackson Yacht Club, we have a couple of regattas each year one in the spring and one in October (the Hospitality Regatta).

Gentlemen:

Being new to Jackson and an avid sailor with “I sold my boat” syndrome, I’m looking to crew on any open boat. I’m semi-retired with a flexible schedule.

My sailing experience includes owning a Catalina 28 for 15 years that I crusied and raced and won a 2006 event in Tulsa, OK. I sold my C28 before moving to Jackson with the plan to downsize to a C22 or J22 (any for sale ?). I also have blue water experience on Catalinas and Island Packets. I currently own and sail a Catalina 16.5 when I spend time in Maine in the summer.

I’d appreciate any opportunities that might be available.

Horace, come on out to JYC and we’ll get you involved.
Also on Saturday March 31 there is a Beer Can race with a 1:55pm warning signal. For this I would show up around 1:00pm also. Ask for George Elliott, He is the Beer Can Czar as he manages all of the Saturday afternoon races. George will probably be on the aft upper deck of the club carrying a gun. Don’t worry he hasn’t shot anyone yet and we think he’s using blanks, but he’s the one to talk to. He can introduce you to folks up there getting ready to go out for a very casual race. All handicap racing, if you have it bring it and it will get scored. Boats on Saturday range from Beneteau 35 to Laser.

Sunday afternoons at 2:00pm we have our regular series races. First warning signal at 2:00pm. Generally there is always someone looking for crew. A little different crowd racing on Sundays, more J/22s and Catalina 22s.

There will not be a race on Easter Sunday, however there will be a Beer can event on Saturday.

Joe – My name is Ashley from Fort Walton Yacht Club. I wanted to let y’all know that the J22 Southeast Circuit Regatta is no longer in Lake Lanier, it will be the Bowlegs Regatta in Fort Walton Yacht Club, June 14-15. The website is http://www.fwyc.org, and the NOR/info/online registration is available on the main page there. Anyone and everyone is free to email me for information.

Thanks, and please spread the word, we have approximately 10 22′s coming so far and would like to see at least 18 on the starting line.

Ashley
